North American Wetland Engineering Moves To New Location
New Offices Take On A "Green" Interior

White Bear Lake, Minn (October 2005) - North American Wetland Engineering, LLC (NAWE) recently moved to new corporate headquarters. The move will provide added space for NAWE's current staff of over 30 engineers, ecologists, scientists and business staff to accommodate their 10-fold increase in business in the past few years.

The new office is designed to comfortably and ecologically house a staff of 50, with options on adjoining space. The interior features both design and décor using green materials and furnishings to reflect the company's commitment to sustainable development. It was designed to benefit employee health and wellness and to protect the environment.

"Scott Wallace and I started North American Wetland Engineering in 1997 with the vision of creating ecologically sound and sustainable wastewater treatment systems," comments Curt Sparks, president of NAWE. "In partnership with our clients and others who share that vision, we have become the world leader in the use of wetlands in cold climates. We also specialize in using engineered wetlands in the remediation of difficult to treat waste streams such as petroleum contaminated water and landfill leachate."

Green features incorporated in the new NAWE offices include:

  • Office Furniture: NAWE selected the new ecosystem collection from Baltix, designed "Green from the Ground Up". Workstations are made from ecowheat and ecosunflower, which are rapidly renewable resources. Recycled materials including newsprint and post-industrial recycled materials make up the other components of the office furniture.
  • Carpeting: Eco*Solution Q from Shaw Fibers was selected because it contains 25% reclaimed fiber from post-industrial and post -consumer waste. This represents a significant step forward in the goal of "zero waste to the landfill".
  • Lighting: Natural light is used extensively throughout for its documented environmental wellness benefits.
  • Heating and Cooling: High efficiency heating and cooling reduces energy costs and environmental impact.
  • Employee Facilities: Water efficient fixtures and shower facilities are incorporated to encourage employee fitness and wellness.
  • Kitchen Waste: Vermi-composting is used for all degradable kitchen waste.
  • Office and Cleaning Supplies: Office Products are selected based on the level of recycled content and non-petroleum based cleaning supplies are used.
  • Recycling Center: Complete process and employee commitment to recycle all obsolete items ranging from cans/plastic/paper to computers, batteries and office equipment.
"Our goal was to reflect the ecological vision on which we founded the company in our office environment," says Scott Wallace, executive vice president of NAWE. "Everything was selected with a green focus in mind."

Engineered wetlands are an eco-engineering technology that is used worldwide and continue to gain acceptance throughout the US and Canada. NAWE is committed to using ecological technologies that balance the needs of development and the environment. Their engineers participate in some of the most important environmental engineering projects around the globe. These include the protection of the Meso-American Reef in Mexico, restoration of the Yarqon River in Israel, discussions regarding the restoration of the Mesopotamian Marshes in Iraq, and consulting in SriLanka after the Tsunami.

Closer to home, NAWE engineers are leaders in developing innovative, cost-effective wastewater solutions for small communities and residential developments. NAWE has designed over 250 wastewater systems throughout the United States and around the world.
